Tall ships at N 48 99.560 W 122 45.230

Nearly that time again. This year the annual Drayton Harbor Days Waterfront festival will be held on August 3 through 7 instead the middle of July. This will include the return of The Lady Washington, the official ship of the state of Washington, and the Hawaiian Chieftain. There are mock battles between the 2 ships and Battle Sails that feature cannon and close-quarters maneuvers. The tour of the ships are free for a donation. The Battle Sails usually have a set price.

Other displays include steamboats at the visitor's dock, a pirate costume contest, vendors, food and music. The best is the Prestigious George Raft Race. It is said that 'George Raft' is Cockney slang for 'having a laugh'. This is a crazy contest involving homemade rafts.

The Plover also runs from Blaine to Semiahmoo: see http://tinyurl.com/2vfajh4 or http://www.blainechamber.com/ on the weekends.

So, last year it was held in July, while I was on a family road trip. This year, it will be in August, while I'll be gone on a family road trip. I get the feeling I'm not fated to see the tall ships.
